Divide & Conquer: Precision Station-Based Kitchen Routing

By Marc Andre • April 25, 2026

The Chaos of the "Unified Print"

In traditional kitchen setups, every order is printed on a single ticket. This forces the expeditor to shout across the line, and chefs to constantly check a long list of items to see if any are relevant to their station. TableGreet’s Station-Based Routing digitizes this "Divide and Conquer" strategy, ensuring that the right information reaches the right hands at the right time.

By assigning every menu item to a specific station (e.g., Cold, Hot, Grill, Bar), our KDS automatically filters the incoming feed. The bartender only sees drinks; the pastry chef only sees desserts. This eliminates 70% of the cognitive noise on the line, allowing for focused, error-free preparation.

Master Expeditor View

While stations see filtered feeds, the head chef or expeditor has access to the "Master View." This provides a top-down look at the entire order’s progress across all stations. If the appetizers are ready but the mains are lagging at the Grill station, the expeditor can intervene immediately.

TIP

Station-based routing can improve peak-hour dish output speed by up to 20% by reducing cross-station communication friction.

Real-Time Re-routing

If one station becomes overwhelmed, a manager can re-route items to a different station in seconds. This dynamic load balancing ensures that your kitchen remains fluid, even when one section of the line hits its capacity limit.

  • Granular Assignment: Tag items by station in the admin panel.
  • Filtered KDS Views: Each tablet shows only relevant orders.
  • Unified Order ID: All stations remain synced under a single guest reference.
  • Expeditor Dashboard: Full visibility into the entire kitchen ecosystem.
